THE STUPID THINGS gun-ban advocates believe...

• That each year, a staggering 440,000 people die in the US from tobacco use, nearly 5 million world-wide. The American Cancer Society estimates nearly 1 Billion deaths globally due to tobacco by the end of this century. Nearly 1 of every 5 deaths is related to smoking. Tobacco kills more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, (including those with guns), and illegal drugs combined. Tobacco companies have boosted their advertising budgets to a staggering $15 billion to maintain their death-grip on society. But legal firearms are the most dangerous threat on Earth, to public safety.

• That the more helpless you are, the safer you are from criminals.

• That Washington DC's low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to proper gun control, and Tampa's high murder rate of 6.1 per 100,000 is attributable to the lack of gun control.

• That you should cooperate with a mugger and give him your wallet, because he doesn't really want to hurt you and he'll let you go. But you're in danger if you don't and risk serious injury or death.

• That an intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or
oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum, will get
angry and kill you.

• That you're safer defending your home against an
armed intruder with a frying pan than with a firearm,
which is likely to be taken away and used against you.

• That firearms in the hands of private citizens are the
gravest threat to world peace, but China, Pakistan, Iran
and Korea can be trusted with nuclear weapons.

• That violent criminals really aren't that violent if you
cooperate nicely. They only get violent if you piss them off.

• That ordinary people in the presence of firearms, turn into psychotic, homicidal maniacs, frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog, but revert back to normal when the firearm is removed.

• That door-to-door searches for drugs are a gross violation of civil rights and a sign of fascism, but door-to-door searches for guns are a reasonable solution to the "gun problem."

• That a 110 lb woman, attacked by a 200 lb rapist with a knife and his 200 lb buddy with a lead pipe, has the "right" to kill them in self defense, provided she uses her bare hands.

• That gun safety courses, or ROTC in school, only teach and encourage kids to commit violence. But sex education in school doesn't encourage kids to have sex.

• That we must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time. But that anyone who owns a gun out of fear of such a lunatic, is simply paranoid.

• That a pro-gun organization's attempt to run a "don't touch" campaign about kids handling guns is propaganda, but an anti-gun crowd's attempt to run a "don't touch" campaign is a responsible social activity.

• That we don't need guns against an oppressive government, because the Constitution has internal safeguards, so we should ban and seize all guns, therefore violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments of that Constitution, thereby becoming an oppressive government.

• That firearms are so complex to use with their 4 controls, that special training is necessary for the typical adult to learn to use them properly, as opposed to a vehicle which has 20.

• That legal firearms aren't needed for self defence for the average person, but it's Ok for politicians and Hollywood types to have armed bodyguards for their protection.

• That a woman raped, beaten and strangled with her panties is morally superior and somehow better off, than a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

• That most people can't be trusted, so we should ban guns, requiring all guns to be turned in. Which most people will abide by, because they can be trusted.

• That police operate in teams with backup, which is why they need larger capacity magazines than civilians, who must face criminals alone, and therefore need less ammunition.

• That women are just as intelligent and capable as men, yet a woman with a gun is "an accident waiting to happen."

• That people don't cause crime, guns cause crime.

• That merely having an interest in firearms is an automatic sign of mental instability, bordering on paranoid psychosis or homicidal tendencies.

• That professionally armed people who protect us like police officers and soldiers are somehow subhuman, knuckle dragging, dregs of society, unsuitable for a more productive type of employment. And despite their high moral standards, honor, bravery and keen intellects, they are simply a violent, brutal, temporary necessity - doing a job that reasonable, balanced, morally superior people, would rather not do.
